Planning advice for Essex weddings and celebrations

Weddings in Essex barns and country clubs are often styled to the last detail, so we design the print template to match the stationery and ask for the colour palette when you book. The booth usually opens after the wedding breakfast and runs through the evening, with the attendant keeping the guest book filled with prints and messages. Asian weddings around Brentwood, Harlow and the Romford edge are large, multi-day affairs, and we are happy to supply the booth for the reception, the mehndi or both.

Birthday parties, especially milestone ones, are a major part of our Essex work, alongside corporate Christmas parties for businesses in Chelmsford, Basildon and Colchester and school proms in June and July. For proms we keep sessions quick and props plentiful; for Christmas parties a branded overlay and a digital gallery sent to the organiser afterwards are the usual requests.

Across the county, from the M25 to the coast

Chelmsford, the county's only city, is busy enough to have its own page with local venue notes. We also cover Colchester, Braintree, Witham and Maldon to the north and east, Southend-on-Sea, Leigh-on-Sea, Rayleigh and Basildon along the estuary, and Brentwood, Billericay, Epping, Loughton and Harlow on the London side. Saffron Walden, up near the Cambridgeshire border, rounds out the north-west.

The A12 is the main artery through Chelmsford towards Colchester, the A127 and A13 take us down to Southend and the estuary towns, and the A130 links Chelmsford with Basildon and Rayleigh. The M25 and M11 give access to Epping, Loughton, Harlow and the north-west of the county. Delivery and setup are included wherever the venue is.

Barns, seafront venues and country clubs

Essex has an unusually high number of converted barns, many of them timber-framed with oak beams and vaulted ceilings, and they are the backbone of the county's wedding scene. Country clubs and golf clubs with large function suites are another strong category, along with hotels in Chelmsford, Colchester and Brentwood that cater for weddings, awards nights and Christmas parties.

On the coast, Southend and Leigh-on-Sea offer seafront hotels, pier-side rooms and beach venues for summer parties. Epping Forest has woodland hotels and country houses on the London fringe. Village halls, cricket and sports clubs and community centres host the more relaxed birthdays and christenings.

Getting in and getting set up

Barn venues are frequently at the end of farm tracks with gravel or loose-stone yards, so we arrive in good time and use trolleys to bring the equipment to the door. Old barn floors can be uneven; we just need a level patch large enough for the booth, up to four metres square for the Inflatable Booth. Seafront venues in Southend may have restricted parking, and we confirm the unloading spot in advance.

Setup takes around 45 to 60 minutes before the hire window starts and is not billed as hire time. One standard socket runs most booths; the Inflatable Booth needs two. Marquee receptions in barn courtyards or gardens need a reliable 13A supply, so please check with the marquee company that any generator is sized for the booth as well as lighting and catering, and that the socket is within a few metres of the booth position.
