Meet the LCD SlimPod

At its heart the LCD SlimPod is an iPad-based touchscreen booth on a slim upright stand, not much wider than a lamp post. There is no cabinet, no curtain and no clutter, which is why it sits comfortably in rooms where a traditional enclosed booth simply would not fit. Guests step up to a backdrop or a plain wall, tap the screen to start, and the countdown begins.

A typical session runs like this: the screen shows a live preview, a short countdown fires, and the pod captures a series of shots. Guests can switch on filters, drop in virtual props or record a GIF or boomerang instead of a still. Two prints come out within seconds, and the attendant hands them over while the next group steps in. Nobody needs instructions, which keeps the queue moving all evening.

Everything that comes with the hire

Every SlimPod booking is a complete package rather than a bare machine. Our attendant travels with the booth, sets it up, keeps it running and packs it away, and delivery is free within our service area. Sessions are unlimited for the length of the hire, so there is no counting prints or rationing turns.

On top of that you get a box of stick props, a guest book for the prints, LED lighting that flatters every skin tone, and a print template designed around your names, date or logo. Digital copies go out by email and social sharing, so guests leave with something on their phones as well as in their pockets. The whole booking is covered by public liability insurance.

Size, footprint and where to put it

The pod itself measures 1.80m high, 0.36m wide and 0.59m deep, and it needs a floor area of about 1.5m by 2m once you allow for guests standing in front of it. One standard plug socket is all it takes to power the unit, the printer and the lighting. There is no ceiling height requirement beyond a normal room, so low-beamed barns and function suites with suspended ceilings are not a problem.

Where it goes matters more than how much space it takes. We suggest a spot that guests pass naturally, such as the edge of the dance floor or near the bar, with the backdrop against a solid wall so the camera is not looking into a window. Keep it away from the DJ speakers if you can, because the attendant needs to be heard when explaining how it works. If the venue is upstairs, that is fine; the pod comes apart into a couple of cases and goes up a staircase or in a lift.

Up to six people fit comfortably in a single shot, which covers most friendship groups and family clusters at a wedding. A session, from the first tap to prints in hand, takes about a minute, so over an hour you can expect somewhere between forty and fifty groups to pass through, allowing for the usual chatting and prop swapping. Across a three-hour hire that adds up to most of a typical wedding guest list having a go, often more than once.

Prints, GIFs and digital copies

Each session produces two prints, one for the guest book and one to take home, or two to split between friends. Prints are ready seconds after the final shot. Alongside the paper copies, every photo, GIF and boomerang is saved digitally and shared by email or straight to social media, so the night lives on after the prints have been pinned to a fridge.

The smart background removal is the feature people ask about most. The software separates guests from whatever is behind them and swaps in a digital scene, so there is no need for a green screen or even a physical backdrop. You can choose a beach, a city skyline, your wedding colours or a branded panel, and the attendant can change it between sessions if you like.

Events where the SlimPod shines

Weddings are where the SlimPod gets booked most, partly because it slips into a corner of almost any venue and partly because the price leaves room in the budget for other things. It also does well at birthday parties, proms and corporate functions, where the small footprint means it can live in a hotel foyer, a school hall or a conference centre breakout area without getting in the way. Asian weddings with long guest lists benefit from the quick session time and the two-print format.

Prices, deposit and how to book

LCD SlimPod packages start from £299. To hold a date we take an £80 deposit, with the balance due one month before the event. Send us the date, venue and rough timings and we will confirm availability within 24 hours. On the day our attendant arrives 45 to 60 minutes before the hire window to set up, and that setup time is never charged as part of your hire.
